Margaret Dillsaver’s introduction to her Guru, Ramamurti S. Mishra, M.D.
(known later in his life as Shri Brahmananda Sarasvati), founder of Ananda
Ashram in Monroe, New York, was at age seven when her mother first read to
her from his book,
Fundamentals of Yoga. To her young mind, “Dr. Mishra” had
the answer to any and all problems. Given her serious nature, however,
examination of the deep existential questions of life led her into
depression when she was seventeen years old. Fortunately, her mother decided
the best solution was to drop her off at the ashram, in hopes she would find
relief from her malaise. She thus met her Guru in 1974 and the course of her
life changed forever. At first a frequent visitor to the ashram, she moved
there in 1985 and was very lucky to have an intense period of study with him
before his passing in 1993. She continues to live and work at the ashram. |
